Acceptable image formats for use in a website include GIF (graphics interchange format) and JPEG (joint photographic expert group format). GIF files are best for line-art illustrations, like drawings. JPEG files are best for photographs. If an image is in some other format, it must be converted to a GIF or JPEG with an image-processing program. Images must also be sized to fit in the layout and load quickly. If an image is too large, or if the designer doesn't specify its dimensions, the browser can take longer to render it on the page.
